Careers in this industry provide career pathway opportunities for formally recognised qualifications in ESI Transmission, Distribution and Rail transport transmission systems from Certificate II to Diploma.

This sector covers Apprenticeships and Traineeships in Overhead Powerline work, Cable Jointing, Rail Traction as well as more advanced qualifications. It encompasses a number of allied qualifications covering ‘Vegetation Control’ and ‘Asset Inspection’.  Qualifications for this sector range from Certificate II to Advanced Diploma.

The array of more advanced upstream career pathway qualifications encompass paraprofessionals work such as technical officers, inspectors, schedulers, operators, switching officers and a host of kindred technicians responsible for troubleshooting, testing, isolating, scheduling, authorising, operating, servicing and maintaining the network of electricity supply energy transmission, distribution and rail transport transmission systems.
Typical entry into the industry is via an apprenticeship, for a trade, or traineeship / open entry for other occupations. Additional upskilling in vocational education and training programs are available to gain specific industry skill set credentials, or full qualifications at higher levels, which provide a career pathway to broader or higher more complex skills, competence and performance.
